Meet the Potter

I’m based in Bloomington, Indiana, and I came to pottery a little unexpectedly. I’ve always loved handmade ceramics and signed up for my first class on a whim. I quickly became hooked on working with clay - something about the rhythm of wheel throwing, trimming & carving, and the concentration it requires really stuck with me.

I focus primarily on functional pottery and am particularly drawn to adding carvings to my pieces. If you ever take a look at my class or work notes, you’ll find that I’m always doodling in the margins. Many of my carvings reflect those same doodles, with shapes inspired by nature, as well as some more methodical, geometric designs. Not only is it an incredibly meditative practice for me, but I also enjoy the texture it adds to pieces, and the extra interest it gives to the glazes.

At the end of the day, my pottery is meant to be lived with - pieces that become part of your daily routine. If something I’ve made can bring a small moment of enjoyment to your day, then it’s doing exactly what I hoped it would.
